Anyone who lives and works in Austria with a Red-White-Red Card may apply for the Red-White-Red Card Plus before their current residence permit expires. This permit provides extended rights and allows more flexible access to the Austrian labour market.
As a general rule, the person must have been employed in Austria for at least 21 months within the last 24 months under the relevant conditions. The application may be submitted within three months before the expiry of the existing Red-White-Red Card.
The Red-White-Red Card Plus is valid for three years and provides unrestricted access to the Austrian labour market. This means that holders are no longer tied to a specific employer and also have the possibility to work on a self-employed basis.
With the Red-White-Red Card Plus, you receive free access to the Austrian labour market. You are no longer bound to a specific employer and may generally work throughout Austria and across different sectors. As a result, the Red-White-Red Card Plus offers greater professional flexibility, better development opportunities and increased security for your long-term future in Austria.
Validity Period
3 years
At least 21 months of employment subject to social insurance contributions in Austria during the validity period of the Red-White-Red Card.
Important Note on Timely Application
The application for extension must be submitted within three months before the expiry of the existing residence permit.
If the application is not submitted on time, it may be treated as a new application.
In this case, the residence procedure must be completed again. Depending on the situation, it may be necessary to leave Austria temporarily.
